Harb: First, there is no plan, there is a vision and a proposal for consultation. So, the NCC has made a proposal for the whole capital region for rebeutification of the area, for changes to some of the existing structures, for putting into place some roads and stuff like that. read more

War veteran works to keep memories alive

When Bill McLachlan talks about his six closest pals, a heart-broken man 50 years younger shines through his eyes.

They were all killed in the Second World War, young Canadians fighting in Europe. McLachlan had known all of them since Boy Scouts.

“Remembrance for me is those six men, killed before they were 21,” McLachlan, a Second World War veteran, says. “I think of these young people who were snuffed out at the prime of life.” read more

Late textbooks put teachers in a bind

The school year is off to a shaky start for elementary school teachers, who began September without new textbooks to back up the province’s new curriculum.

Ottawa schools only received the new textbooks a few weeks ago, leaving teachers no time to plan a teaching strategy to meet new education standards. While some say the new books are not essential, the teachers’ union feels differently. read more
