St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Bank Street at First Avenue, is holding a harvest home supper from 4:30 until 7 p.m. Enjoy an old-fashioned country church supper (turkey with all the trimmings) in the heart of the city. Tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for children and students. Ticket available at the door.

Friends of Abandoned Pets, a local non-profit animal rescue organization, will hold a steak dinner and silent/live auction in support of its activities dedicated to the care, welfare and placement of rescued cats and dogs in foster homes. Admission is $25 and vegetarian choices are available. Friends of Abandoned Pets does not have a shelter. Volunteers work from their homes. The United Church Women of Dominion-Chalmers United Church,355 Cooper St., are holding a Yuletide Fair from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Featured will be a White Elephant Table, specialty foods, Christmas crafts, jewelry, handicrafts, knitted items, used CDs, tapes and videos, as well as books toys and plants. Coffee shop open at 9:30. Tickets for luncheon sittings are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Building is wheel-chair accessible

The Friends of the Farm are holding a craft and bake sale in Building 72, Arboretum, Central Experimental Farm, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The sale will showcase area artisans working in a variety of media including jewelry, stained glass, photography and clothing. St. Andrew’s Church, 82 Kent St., is holding a Scottish Tea and Bazaar from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attic treasures, baking, books, crafts, games, jewelry will be featured as well as a silent auction and team room.

Taking the Heat: African Farmers and Climate Change is the topic of a public forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bronson Centre, 211 Bronson Ave. Learn how African farmers and rural communities are coping with the impact of climate change. What solutions can Africans offer and how can Canadians help? The forum is sponsored by the Canadian Food Security Policy Group and the Canadian Coalition on Climate Change and Development. The Good Companions Centre has an interesting variety of volunteer opportunities: dining room server, cashier, receptionist, telephone receptionist.
