A 20-year-old Ottawa man is facing multiple charges after an Albert Street collision Thursday night that killed a 36-year-old man and left his 35-year-old wife seriously injured.
Simon Banke has been charged with six different offences, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and bodily harm, criminal negligence causing death and bodily harm, and stunt racing. As a young driver, he also faces charges for having a blood alcohol content higher than zero.
The couple was waiting at a temporary bus stop on Albert Street, between Bank and Kent streets, when the accident occurred. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene after pulling him out from under the smashed car. According to police, his wife is still in hospital in critical condition.
Banke will appear in court Saturday for a show cause hearing.
