Two investigators from Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit are currently in Ottawa after a man sustained injuries while in police custody Wednesday evening.
According to Frank Phillips, SIU communications co-ordinator, the two investigators are currently collecting the man’s medical reports and looking into how he received his injuries.
Const. Jean-Paul Vincelette of the Ottawa Police Service confirms that the man was arrested for being drunk in public Wednesday night.
The arrest came after Ottawa police were alerted to a non-responsive man in the Argyle Avenue and Metcalfe Street area, around 6:30 p.m.
Because the Ontario Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and are investigating, the Ottawa Police Service will not be releasing further details.
