McKenzie elected public school board chairwoman

Jennifer McKenzie has been elected chairwoman of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.

The trustee, who represents the Somerset and Kitchissippi wards, was officially sworn in Wednesday at the inaugural meeting of the new board, according to a news release.

It is both an honour and a privilege to assume this position,” said McKenzie in the news release. “This is a time of renewal and there is a lot of exciting work underway at the school district. I believe that creativity and leadership are critical to our success.”

Bronwyn Funiciello will join McKenzie as vice-chairwoman of the board.

“The new board will play an integral role in continuing our focus on student achievement and well-being for all students in our district,” said director of education Barrie Hammond in the news release.
