Ottawa residents will soon have free Internet access in 25 city facilities.
As a part of the Community Champions Program, the City of Ottawa has teamed up with Ottawa-based IceNet Wireless to provide free Wi-Fi in some of the city’s major recreational complexes.
The Jack Purcell Community Centre, Ottawa City Hall, Plant Recreational Centre and the ByWard Market Building are some of the downtown locations that are included in the program, according to a city press release.
The complexes can expect to have the Wi-Fi installed by July.
“Ottawa residents have been calling for Wi-Fi access in city buildings, and today we are able to answer that call,” Mayor Jim Watson said this morning in a statement.
According to a media release, the five-year sponsorship agreement with IceNet Wireless will bring in $63,000 of annual revenue for the city. This will be generated through advertisements monitored by IceNet Wireless.
