The University of Ottawa will accept all recommendations from a task force on respect and equality on campus, according to a press release Thursday morning.
The recommendations include educating students on the importance of consent in sexual activity, training senior staff to deal with harassment and sexual violence and creating a protocol for all university members when responding to sexual assault allegations.
The task force was created after two members of the University of Ottawa men’s hockey team were charged with sexual assault and student leaders made sexually violent comments about female students on Facebook early last year.
“Our goal is to make our university a place where students, faculty and staff feel secure and where survivors of sexual violence get the support they need,” said Allan Rock, the university’s president in the release.
