Juno Award-winning artists to rock out on Parliament for the New Year

Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly has announced the line up of the Canada 150 New Year’s Eve celebration happening this year on Parliament Hill. The concert will mark the official commencement of Canada 150, a nation-wide celebration of 150 years since Canada’s confederation.

This event, hosted by Virgin Radio Montreal host Isabelle Racicot, will include two fireworks shows, a Peace Tower Carillon concert and performances from Canadian artists such as Acadian group Radio Radio, country singer Brett Kissel and juno-nominated Carly Rae Jepsen, according to a government press release.

The Department of Heritage is working with Ottawa 2017 and Gatineau 2017 to hold the concert and recommends the Canadian Museum of History, Major’s Hill Park and Parliament Hill as spots to watch the fireworks.

“Canadians will be treated to a spectacular show to start the official celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Confederation,” said Peter Wilkinson, senior vice president of regulatory and public affairs at Manulife, a sponsor of the event. “New Year’s Eve will be exciting for the whole family and we hope everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the festivities.”

This year, events celebrating Canada 150 will be held on December 31 in St. John’s, Charlottetown, Halifax, Fredericton, Moncton, Québec City, Montréal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit.
