Musica Viva Singers, now based at the Church of St. Barnabas on James Street, present their musical achievements to you in a concert entitled ‘Study War No More — Songs For Peace’ on April 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. Under the leadership of James Calkin, the concert features Haydn’s powerful Missa in Angustiis, also known as the Nelson Mass, evoking both the angst of a long war and a sublime confidence and hope for peace.The second half of the concert features songs about peace: Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich by Felix Mendelssohn — a setting of Martin Luther’s prayer for peace, and Dona nobis pacem by Winnipeg composers Helen Litz and Annette Hay. Following the concert, there will be a reception in the Cathedral Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, available in advance from Christ Church Cathedral Box Office, Compact Music, 785 Bank Street in the Glebe and downtown at 190 Bank Street, and Leading Note Music, 370 Elgin Street.
