Bronson apartment fire displaces eight people

Eight people are homeless after a fire that started in a basement apartment tore through a Bronson Avenue building.

Fire crews responded to a structural fire near Bronson and Arlington avenues at around 10:45 a.m. The fire was under control about an hour later, according to the fire department’s Twitter account.

No injuries have been reported. One dog died in the fire and another was rescued by fire crews, according to the Twitter account.

Bronson Avenue was temporarily closed between Catherine Street and Gladstone Avenue while fire crews determined if the apartment was safe.

Papa Joe’s Pizza, which is connected to the apartment building, will be closed until Ottawa Public Health does an inspection on smoke damage, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
