The corporate owner of the Ottawa Senators hockey club is “actively considering” submitting a proposal to the National Capital Commission to build a new arena at LeBreton Flats.
“We can also confirm that we have been approached by numerous well-established private sector companies and community organizations who have expressed a strong desire to partner with us on developing a world-class proposal for the site,” said Senators Sports and Entertainment in a statement released Tuesday night.
The Senators currently play at the Canadian Tire Centre, more than 25 kilometres from the potential new site.
“Strong community support” will be important for the organization’s decision, which will be made in the next few weeks, the release said.
The NCC put out a request in September for potential builders to set up south of the Canadian War Museum.
The deadline for proposals was recently extended from Dec. 5 to Jan. 7, 2015.
