Oneid’s Flowers on Rideau Street is caught on the route trucks take to the Queensway after crossing the Macdonald-Cartier bridge. Over 2,000 18-wheelers pass by daily.

Centretown curling fans are in for a treat when the City of Ottawa Bonspiel rocks the capital March 17.
The 44th annual event attracts over 1,000 curlers, says Revia Fisher-Titus, secretary manager of the Ottawa Valley Curling Association (OVCA). Fisher-Titus expects teams from all over Ontario, Quebec and New York state, and even one competitor from Finland.

One thing is for sure: there will be no women’s football at Carleton University next year.
But right now everything else is still up in the air. University president Richard Van Loon will decide in mid-February on director of athletics Drew Love’s recommendations. Among the changes being considered: axing football entirely and giving more money to women’s athletics than men’s.

If local outdoor rinks are in worse shape than usual this year, blame the weather not the city.
“I know for a fact there has been no discussion about reduction in grants for 1999 in the budget,” said Linda Pajot, who formerly worked for Parks and Recreation and is now facility manager for Jack Purcell Community Centre.
