A Canadian music-themed exhibition — a prelude to next month’s Juno Awards — opened March 11 at the Canada Council for the Arts Âjagemô gallery on Elgin Street.
The exhibit, titled JUNO House: R-Evolutions, is sponsored by the Canada Council, the national public arts funder, in conjunction with the JUNO Awards, which will be taking place in Ottawa on April 2.
Curated by journalist and musicologist Allan Wigney, JUNO House: R-Evolutions features art and memorabilia reflecting the Canadian music scene, the council said in a press release.
Features of the exhibit include artwork from Canadian singer-songwriter and painter Joni Mitchell, the wedding dress worn by k.d. lang when she accepted the JUNO for most promising female vocalist in 1985, and running shoes from the popular Toronto rapper Drake.
The exhibit also features artwork from the Canada Council Art Bank and past JUNO Awards memorabilia.
Wigney said the Canada Council has been a champion for the arts for the past 60 years.
This free exhibit will act as the “Juno House” headquarters for events and announcements during the week leading up to the awards, which take place at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata.
The free exhibit will be on display until August 31.
