Ottawa Tourism has announced the finalists for the 2018 Ottawa Tourism Awards. The awards are presented annually to celebrate individuals, organizations, companies and events that are “contributing to the growth and development of tourism in Ottawa and Canada’s Capital Region”, according to the Ottawa Tourism website.
There are four categories: New Company of the Year, Social Media/Marketing Campaign, Event of the Year (Annual), and Event of the Year (One Time).
Among the Centretown entrants included in the list of finalists are the Bytown Museum, the Canadian Museum of Nature and Haunted Walks.
All three have been nominated for the Social Media/Marketing Campaign Award.
According to Ottawa Tourism, the award category “recognizes an innovative social media and/or marketing initiative … that positively impacted visitor perception of the destination, product, service or experience.”
Haunted Walks won the Tourism Employer of the Year Award in the 2016 Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence.
Ottawa hosted the world’s largest scavenger hunt in September 2017, with 2,733 successful participants out of 3,600. It took place throughout the city, including Parliament Hill.
That event is nominated in the Event of the Year (One Time) award category.
The winners of the 2018 Tourism Awards will be held on May 3 at the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata.
