Gallery 101 seeking old televisions for exhibit
By Jennifer Doede
If you have an old-fashioned television collecting dust somewhere in your home, Gallery 101 could turn your neglected screen into an aesthetic treasure.
The gallery, located on Young Street, is asking the public for nine cathode ray tube (CRT) TV monitors for an exhibition by artist Laura Taler set to take place from March 4 until April 1. The exhibition will feature a multi-channel video installation, a series of collages and an HD video projection of a Super 8 film. The footage for the installation will be played on the TV monitors.
Since the late 2000s, CRTs have been replaced with more advanced display technologies, such as liquid-crystal and plasma displays. These innovations have led to the creation of sleeker televisions, making CRT displays obsolete.
All TV monitor donators will receive a free drink at the exhibit’s debut in March.
