Newspapers closures described as threat to “hyper-local” news

The closure of nine local newspapers in Ottawa is said to be leaving a huge gap in community coverage outside the city core. While Metro Ottawa’s final day of publication was Nov. 27, the remaining eight community publications are expected to close by mid-January.
