Possible LAC partnership in new Central Library will be settled by March: Watson
By Meaghan Richens
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson said he expects to know by March whether Library and Archives Canada will partner with the city in building a new Central Library on the east side of LeBreton Flats.
In an interview with CBC’s Ottawa Morning on Jan. 11, Watson called the partnership a win-win situation for the city and the federally funded Library and Archives Canada.
“We now are waiting for the federal budget to see if we’ve been successful in getting those dollars,” said Watson.
Watson said he will continue to lobby local members of Parliament to back the project. Some, he said, have been very supportive and see the development as a region-wide facility that will benefit the city.
“By March, we’ll know if the federal government is in,” said Watson. “If they’re not in, we’re going to go on our own.”
