Road closures this weekend for Red Bull Crashed Ice
By Olivia Bowden
The Red Bull Crashed Ice event is all set to take place March 3-5 in the heart of downtown Ottawa, with the track set up right next to the Château Laurier.
But Ottawa residents should be forewarned that the downhill skating competition will create traffic snags. The City of Ottawa announced this week that there will be a few road closures to be aware of..
York Street in the Byward Market will be closed from Sussex Drive to Byward Market Square on March 3 from 4 p.m. to midnight, March 4 from 4 p.m. to midnight and March 5 from midnight to 8 a.m.
Similarly, Wellington Street will have westbound lane reductions between Mackenzie Avenue and Elgin Street southbound. This will happen from March 3 at 9 p.m. to March 4 at 3 p.m.

The Crashed Ice event involves skaters speeding down a steep, curving ice track in a race to the finish. According to the Ottawa 2017 website, it took more than 10,000 hours of labour and 1,400 plywood sheets to construct the course.
