Team Homan remains undefeated at CPT World Women’s Curling Championships

Skip Rachel Homan and her team out of the Ottawa Curling Club continued their dominant performance at the CPT World Women’s Curling Championships in Beijing on Tuesday with an 8-2 win in seven ends over Scotland’s Team Muirhead.

Team Homan have run their record to 7-0 at this point in the tournament and have four games remaining before the playoffs start. Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Joanne Courtney and lead Lisa Weagle are the only group that has a perfect record in the event.

Not only does the Canadian team have a perfect match record, they have only had two of their seven matches go the full 10 ends.

In their first game against Team Jentsch from Germany, the Canadians scored two in the first end and never looked back, en route to a 6-2 eight-end victory. Canada gave up two in the 10th end against the Russian team, Team Sidorova, and had to score a single point in the extra end to get the win.

Team Homan then defeated American Team Roth 7-5 and Switzerland’s Team Paetz 8-6, winning both in nine ends. Canada then faced their first time playing in back-to-back draws against Team Korea, skipped by EunJung Kim, and went the full 10 ends before recording a 9-8 win.

The last part of the round robin schedule is a difficult one for the Canadians. After getting a rest during the morning on Wednesday, Team Homan was scheduled to play their four remaining games in four consecutive draws.

They have the final round robin draw off before playoffs begin on Friday.

This is Team Homan’s third appearance at the championships, having improved each time before. At the 2013 world championship, Team Homan won bronze, and the rink took home silver the following year.

The championship runs until Sunday, with the gold medal match scheduled for a 3 a.m. start Ottawa time.
