Two more Naloxone training sessions attracting interest

By Liam McPherson

MAX Ottawa is holding two additional naloxone training sessions in Centretown after its Jan. 23 session was met with overwhelming demand.

The sessions, which will take place on Feb. 13 and March 6, will teach participants how to safely use naloxone to save the lives of those overdosing on opioids.

The training has been popular among Centretown residents and the Feb. 13 session has already reached capacity.

MAX Ottawa, a local organization that focuses on holistic health programs for gay men, has been overwhelmed by the amount of interest. To make each training session run smoothly, the organization has enlisted the help of a volunteer group called Communities Organizing for Harm Reduction, as well as the AIDS Committee of Ottawa.

During each session, participants are shown how to inject naloxone through a syringe and administer nasal spray. They are also given a naloxone kit to take home with them.

Each training session is free of charge, open to the public and has the capacity for 60 participants. Anyone who is interested in attending the March 6 session taking place at 251 Bank St. can RSVP by emailing matt@maxottawa.ca.
