Woman taken to hospital after being struck by taxi

A woman in her 60s was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Sept. 14 after being struck by a taxi at Elgin and Somerset streets that veered out of control.

Paramedics revived the woman after she suffered a cardiac arrest and critical injuries.

“Paramedics started aggressive resuscitation with CPR and airway management and managed to restart her heart,” Marc-Antoine Deschamps of Ottawa Paramedics told CTV News Ottawa.

The taxi driver, a man in his 50s, had suffered a medical emergency, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, paramedics stated at the time.

The driver was also in serious condition and was taken to the hospital.

The taxi passenger had minor chest injuries and was also taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

The Blue Line taxi struck the woman, who standing on the sidewalk at about 9 a.m.

According to witnesses, the taxi was speeding, ran a red light on Somerset Street and knocked down a parking sign before hitting the woman. The taxi then crashed into a parking lot wall.

Ottawa Police closed off the area for much of the morning to investigate.
