The Centretown curling world is churning out a wealth of talent on the women’s side of the sport.
Team Homan from the Ottawa Curling Club will be the Ontario representative at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Feb. 18-26. At the 2017 Canadian Junior Curling Championships skip Hailey Armstrong and her team from the Rideau Curling Club finished second.
Skip Rachel Homan and her team will be competing in their fifth Scotties when they travel to St. Catherines this month. The Centretown-based team earned their place at the national women’s championship after winning the provincial championship on Feb. 5. The team went 5-2 in the round robin, having to go through the semi-finals before beating Team Harrison 7-4 in the finals.
Team Armstrong went a perfect 10-0 in the round robin at the Canadian Junior Women’s Championship, earning a direct berth to the finals where they faced Team Alberta, skipped by Kristen Streifel.
Team Armstrong beat Team Streifel 7-3 in the prelims, but Streifel overcame Armstrong in the final with a 5-3 win over the team from Centretown.
