In response to rising interest in Indigenous cultures, the Mohawk community in Awkesasne, near Cornwall, Ont., has launched programs for visitors interested in learning about Mohawk history and traditions. Penny Peters, manager of Awkesasne Travel, said the discovery of unmarked graves at the sites of former residential schools across Canada earlier this year led to people reaching out to the community asking to learn more.
