Who is she?

Canoe-kayak athlete Madeleine Beauregard is a 17-year-old paddler from Ottawa’s Rideau Canoe Club who has risen to prominence as one of Canada’s top young talents.

In 2025, she earned four gold medals at the U17 Olympic Hopes Regatta in Czechia, adding to her list of national and international achievements. She has also represented Ontario at the Canada Summer Games.

What’s her background?

Beauregard was introduced to paddling nine years ago through a summer program at the Rideau Canoe Club. She then took a break until the COVID-19 pandemic, when she picked it back up as a safe way to stay busy. She also had competitive experience in cross-country skiing, circus aerials and swimming before she started paddling, she told Ottawa Sports Pages.

What is she known for in Ottawa?

Beauregard is one of Ottawa’s most accomplished young canoe sprint athletes, representing the city and Canada on the international stage. Her success at major competitions like the Olympic Hopes Regatta and the Canada Summer Games has made her a standout. 

What do people say about her?

Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell, commenting on the C4 Junior Women 500m team of which she was a member told InsideOttawaValley, “Your results and hard work were outstanding.”

“While results are not always the main thing we look at, when you attain the level of success you have, it is something to congratulate and a source of great pride.”

Coach Patrick Lester told CTV the team brings him great pride. “The athletes that we have are mostly, almost entirely juniors,” says Lester. “They’re a really close-knit group of friends that, when you have that kind of environment, that atmosphere, it makes it easier for them to show up to practice and do the work and have fun doing work.”

As she works her way through Grade 12, Beauregard aims to pursue post-secondary studies in health science, she told Ottawa Sports Pages
