It’s a wrap on another season of Midweek!
The final show of Winter 2025 started with the latest on tariffs ahead of an afternoon announcement south of the border. Then, a look into Ottawa’s missing measles outbreak.
Back to back stories on education—reporter Jayden Dill took us to the front lines of a protest against changes at the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, and Jessica Campbell sat down with hosts Sarah Hirsi and Janson Duench to talk cuts at the post-secondary level. Rounding out the first half, we had an early look at what axing the carbon tax means for Canadians, as well as how street harassment goes unaddressed.
In the bottom of the hour, we heard about various ways to facilitate community—helping people with autism represent themselves, ironing out the candence of sports chanting, and keeping traditional Lebanese dance alive.
Lastly (but not leastly), we said goodbye to not only this season of Midweek but Canada’s longest-running company, Hudson’s Bay—and how it’s treating its employees on the way out.
After months of practice, it was smooth sailing on the production side. Like a well-oiled machine, stories were filed, edited, and slid into the lineup; music was catalogued and ordered; and scripts were assembled well ahead of schedule. With so much breathing room, the inevitable pre-show scramble to reorder scripts went down without anyone breaking (too much of) a sweat.
Hard work tends to work up appetites, and today was no different. Enter: a mountain of submarine sandwiches graciously covered by Professor Nana aba Duncan and delivered right before the start of the show. With a labelling mix up on the supplier’s end, a crack team of volunteers assembled and carried out the all-important task of sorting out which sandwich was which.
After the final post-show debrief of the semester, team members seemed reluctant to leave the radio room for what might be the last time. Bittersweet endings aside, we bid our Winter 2025 team goodbye and wish them the best as they move onto bigger (and perhaps even better) things!
