Gordon Asmus lived through the rise of HIV – Human Immunodeficiency Virus – in Canada and across the world in the 1980s.
Following his HIV-AIDS diagnosis in 1993, Asmus went to the AIDS Community of Ottawa (ACO) for support.
Not soon after he started volunteering and never stopped.
Asmus became an activist, supporting others who are affected by HIV and was among the team that advocated for the Canadian Government to endorse the Undetectable = Untransmittable campaign.
This campaign later became a global initiative supported by the World Health Organization.
He sat for an interview with journalist Claire Hutcheon to discuss his life and the legacy of HIV/AIDS activism in Canada.
