Who is Dr. Christina Romulus?

Dr. Christina Romulus is an Ottawa physician and mentor to Black students entering medicine She is also known for her support of marginalized communities.

What’s her background?

Romulus grew up in a town outside of Quebec City. Her parents were from Haiti and Mexico. She says a mission trip to Haiti at 15 inspired her passion for medicine. Over the course of her education, it became clear to her that Black medical students were under-represented and many had virtually no support, she says. She became a mentor for Ottawa’s Black Med Collective in 2021. The organization seeks to support marginalized students and reduce racism in education and health care.

During the pandemic, Romulus was on the front lines as a hospital physician. In 2021, she opened her own cosmetic medicine clinic, where she offers professional medical Botox and filler treatments.

Romulus’s involvement in mentorship and outreach has made her well known as a supporter of women, racialized communities and small-business owners. She recently received the Famous 5 Foundation award for 2024. The award recognizes five local women for exceptional achievement in women’s empowerment and mentorship.

Romulus speaks five languages fluently and offers treatment in English, French, Spanish, Creole and Italian. She says that when patients can speak their maternal language with a health care provider, it can put them at ease and helps her deliver kinder and more empathetic care.
