Bobby Brown is the Field Manager and Director of Operations of the Ottawa Titans, a professional baseball team that plays in the Frontier League, an independent partner league of Major League Baseball.
What’s his background?
Brown has a wealth of high-level baseball experience from his time at the University of Oklahoma when he appeared in the 1995 College World Series, to his managerial career, which began in 2010. Brown is no stranger to the Frontier League, playing with the now-defunct Springfield Capitals in the 1996 season. Before joining the Titans, Brown was the hitting coach for the Pioneer League Missoula PaddleHeads in 2021, a year which saw the PaddleHeads win a championship. What is he known for in Ottawa?
Brown has been the manager of the Ottawa Titans since their inaugural season in 2022. The team hired Brown after Steve Brook stepped down during the 2021 season, which the Titans didn’t participate in because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Since joining the organization, Brown has led the Titans to the playoffs in two of his three seasons at the helm, including the 2024 season which saw the team lose to the Québec Capitales in the Frontier League Division Series, the first round of the playoffs.
What do people say about him?
A news release from when he joined the Titans, recalled his “very successful playing career.” A 2017 article from Minor League Sports Report praised Brown’s old school approach to building a team, favouring strong defence and pitching as opposed to the more modern trend of relying on heavy hitters to win games.
What’s something people don’t know about him?
Brown describes himself mainly as “a baseball guy.” He also owns a 170-lb. Great Pyrenees dog “that drives around everywhere with me in the city,” he says with a chuckle.
