Who is he?

Adam Miron is an Ottawa-based entrepreneur who has contributed to at least 20 startups and supports businesses across the region.

What is his background?

Originally from rural Alberta, Miron lives in Ottawa with his wife and three daughters. He attended Thomas Rivers University (2007) and the Australian School of Business, where he completed his MBA (2024). He said he has been an entrepreneur since age 10 when his father encouraged him to start a business fixing up bikes.

“My dad was always very good at that. He was very innovative, and he was always teaching us to be entrepreneurial and trying to create opportunities for us,” Miron told Capital Current in a telephone interview.

What is he known for in Ottawa?

In 2013, Miron and his brother-in-law co-founded HEXO Corporation, which manufactures and distributes cannabis products across Canada. The company was valued at $2.9 billion in 2019. He has been busy since leaving his operational role with the company in 2019. Since then Miron has:

  • Co-authored a book about HEXO titled Billion Dollar Start-Up;
  • Become the co-chair of Invest Ottawa;
  • Been named Entrepreneur in Residence at Thompson Rivers University
  • And started the Founder Advisory, providing “empathetic business advisory services,” Miron says.

Miron says he now has the resources to give back. “I sit on a number of boards, and I feel like that’s really where I get to exercise my community-building desire to make Ottawa a better place and to give back to the community that has given me so much,” he said.

What do people say about him?

When Miron was named Entrepreneur in Residence at Thompson Rivers University in 2019, many people shared opinions through social media. “The ultimate giveback — mentoring and sharing your knowledge to help others. This is another piece of your legacy,” commented Praveena Ramaswami, public relations professional at EAVX. TRU also conferred on Miron a Doctor of Laws, recognizing “significant contributions to the business world and his commitment to education and mentorship,” the Ottawa Business Journal reported.

What is something people do not know about him?

“I enjoy sitting back in one of [my] comfy chairs and listening to some vinyl,” Miron said. He recently created a custom listening music room in his home, where he can enjoy some of his favourite artists, such as the jazz legend Keith Jarrett and the innovative Indigenous artist Jeremy Dutcher.
