Today’s edition of Midweek featured a human paper jam, musical malfunctions, and the unshakeable allure of a weather map—and that’s before we even get to the stories.

After some snow-related delays, the team made up for lost time by immediately hitting the road again to chase stories across Ottawa. Not every story shaped up as expected, but almost all made it into the show with some tweaking.

Although script assembly started right on time, we ran into a bit of a human paper jam when one item needed to be reprinted. Thanks to some volunteer help, a few minutes of dissassembly and delegation meant the lineup was fixed and everything was back on track!

Thanks to some quality time spent between our copy editors and an enthralling meteorological chart, the show kicked off with a fullsome weather update on the incoming winter storm, followed by how a local distillery is encouraging people to buy Canadian.

With some due dilligence by reporter Bo-Ning Gao, we got the latest from city council on building transitional shelters, less than an hour after councillors gave the idea a thumbs-up.

Reporter Jayden Dill sat down with hosts Jessica Campbell and Nadia Al-Zambouri to talk equitable policing and how people on both sides of the issue have responded to recent police data. A few items later, Julien Brombach did the same for Ottawa-Gatineau’s newest wintertime music attraction.

The show also featured stories on food waste accounting, Ottawa’s influenza situation, World Radio Day, a (non-romantic) social matching application, sustaintable thrifting, and the future of AI legislation.

Aside from a longer than expected musical break, the show went off without a hitch, and the team was relieved from duty before the worst of the snow hit.
