A new poll from non-profit Angus Reid Institute shows that a sizeable majority of Canadians approve of U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The current vice president will be confirmed in her candidacy for president of the United States next week at the Democratic National Convention.
Two thirds of the 1,605 Canadians polled responded they hold favourable views of Harris compared to one fifth who hold favourable views of Trump.
Support for Harris in those polled is stronger among women of all age groups, with women aged 55 or older being the most supportive. Inversely, men younger than 55 are more likely to hold unfavourable views and describe her as dishonest”, “arrogant”, or “corrupt”.
About half of respondents also reported feeling “hopeful” if Harris wins the U.S. presidential election, with one third feeling “relieved.” Forty-six per cent said they would be “worried” about a second Trump presidency.
Most Canadians believe there is no difference between men and women’s ability to do the job, but 73 per cent of respondents believe it is easier for men to get elected to high political positions than women.
