Olympic stars like Donovon Bailey and Andre De Grasse have made the track a place of pride for Canada.
The struggle to become and stay competitive isn’t just on the track though.
According to the non-profit organization CAN Fund, which provides supplemental income to athletes, three out of five Canadian athletes are in debt and have a negative net income.
Quinn Lyness, a former University of Ottawa track athlete, quit his graduate studies in Europe and put his career on hold to try to help to change that.
He has created the Canadian Track and Field League (CTFL), where athletes can compete for cash prizes.
