Ottawa’s Planning and Housing Committee has approved a “state of the art” medical building in Alta Vista.

The Advanced Medical Research Centre (AMRC) will be a part of the University of Ottawa’s faculty of medicine.

The six storey building will contain the Ottawa Health Innovation Hub, a health research facility, other research labs, animal care and veterinary services.

“The AMRC will provide a new capacity to work together from bench to bedside and back again to look at results from every angle,” said Mary-Ellen Harper, the director of the Ottawa Institute Systems of Biology.

The Advanced Medical Research Centre (AMRC) is part of the Ottawa Health Science Complex which includes the Ottawa Hospital.

The AMRC will be built on the north side of Smyth Road and connect with uOttawa’s Roger Guindon Hall.

A portion of the pre-existing parking lot at this location will be removed to make space for the AMRC.

The AMRC has been classified as a high economic impact project by the city with the total project investment estimated at $250 million.

The project is also reported to deliver “a significant number of construction jobs and full-time permanent research and development focused jobs,” according to the proposal.
