Sparks Street Mall to fight wrongful dismissal
The Sparks Street Mall Management Board intends to fight the wrongful dismissal suit filed against it by its former boss.
In documents filed with the Ontario Court, General Division, the board has said it had just cause to terminate Kenneth Dale’s employment and says that no assurances were made to extend Dale’s contract.
The board has asked the court to dismiss Dale’s suit with legal costs.
Dale is seeking $90,000 for wrongful dismissal, $50,000 for lost of reputation and $30,000 for punitive damages.

City demands trees in parking lot
The city is upset over a downtown parking lot because it has too many cars and not enough trees.“They want to cram as many cars as they can on the lot so they can maximize their revenues,” says Somerset Coun. Elisabeth Arnold.
The lot, owned by the Metcalfe Reality Company and operated by Canpark, does not meet zoning regulations or site plan requirements for such things as tree planting, exit locations and materials used.
If the zoning requirements are not met by the end of the month the city’s next step is legal action.
The lot owners have until next spring to comply with the site plan requirements.

Health centre outgrows space
The Centretown Community Health Centre is giving itself a present for its 30th anniversary when it relocates to 420 Cooper from its current spot at 340 MacLaren next April.
Stella Andriopoulos, the centre’s executive director of the centre, says it’s moving because it has outgrown its space and needs more room for programs, services and partner agencies.
Close to 9,000 people who use the centre each year will be affected by the move.
The centre has already begun notifying clients and community partners about the move.
