OC Transpo is trying to woo the white-collar worker to the bus.
The transit commission is lobbying the federal government to declare transit passes a non-taxable benefit. Companies could include a bus pass in their benefits packages, reducing pollution, parking problems and road decay. And ridership would increase, allowing OC Transpo to offer more efficient service.
Sparks Street Mall to fight wrongful dismissal
The Sparks Street Mall Management Board intends to fight the wrongful dismissal suit filed against it by its former boss.
In documents filed with the Ontario Court, General Division, the board has said it had just cause to terminate Kenneth Dale’s employment and says that no assurances were made to extend Dale’s contract.
The board has asked the court to dismiss Dale’s suit with legal costs.
The Salvation Army Toy Centre will once again make thousands of little faces smile this Christmas.
The Toy Centre started distributing toys Nov. 23. Parents were already lined up on the stairs and out the door into the parking lot at 9 a.m. when it opened. They were waiting to register in order to pick out new toys for their children.
First United Church, at the corner of Kent and Florence streets, sits in 87-year-old complacency. The church is more lively inside where hymns celebrating Christmas’s approach hide it’s financial troubles and the possibility of abandoning the building.
