Better uses for bridge money

(Stop ‘whining’ over bridge, Oct. 1)

Maybe, Mr. Warnock, you could explain to me, and the other obviously ignorant taxpayers of the City of Ottawa that see no need for a $5 million footbridge from a bus stop on one side of the canal to a residential area on the other, 300m from the existing and newly renovated Laurier Avenue bridge, how it would “improve our quality of life” ?

I’m sure the taxpayers in the former West Carleton, the former Nepean and the former Gloucester areas are waiting with bated breath for the answer. I’m sure the homeless would forgo shelter and food so you can have your footbridge if there was a choice of where to spend $5 million of taxpayer’s money in tight economic times. But then again the homeless might be the only ones to benefit from the bridge . . . they could use it to sleep under !

Feel free to “shut up and pay” for my portion.
