Ottawa libraries are lending more than just books

A pedometer lending program now available in all city libraries is just one step in a 10,000-step program to get Ottawa residents more physically active.

“Now you can go to the library and you can take out a pedometer just the way you can take out a book to see what kind of walking you’re doing,” said Dr. Robert Cushman, Ottawa’s chief medical officer, during the Active Ottawa campaign launch on Oct. 29. read more

SUVs a thing of the past in a vision of Ottawa’s future

Ottawa residents will have to park their SUVs in the garage and start riding the bus to work if the city is to be successful 100 years in the future, according to a long-term planning group.

The City of Ottawa invited the B.C.-based Sheltair Group to present a two-day conference intended to educate local businesses and city officials about long-term urban planning Nov. 1 and 2. This expands on the Ottawa 20/20 plan – a guide to develop the city over 20 years. read more
