Thousand Islands Arts will present its 18th annual Autumn Leaves Studio Tour over five days in the Canadian Thousand Islands Region from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The tour includes a visit to 19 juried artists and artisans of paintings, drawings, pottery and textiles. The free self-guided driving tour will take visitors to 15 studios all located in the Thousand Islands area. Watch for red and white signs along the studio tour route. Oct. 3

David Wilkins, American ambassador to Canada, will host the annual Fanfare reception following the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra’s opening concert at the National Arts Centre. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets for the concert start at $22, reception tickets are $30. Tickets may be bought at the NAC box office, through TicketMaster or the OSO office by calling 613-231-2561.

Walk for the Animals, a walkathon to aid neglected farm animals, will take place on Parliament Hill, at 10 a.m.

A 20-year Celebration of Folk Music takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Canadian Museum of Civilization Theatre. Tickets are $30 for the general public and $20 for students or delegates to the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals conference. St. Andrew’s Church, 82 Kent St., will hold a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale will feature clothing, books, household items and small appliances. For more information call 613-232-0942.

SalvAide, an Ottawa-based organization, is preparing for its 9th Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction. The fundraiser will take place from 5:30 p.m. onwards at the Ukrainian Hall, 1000 Byron Ave. The event will feature food, entertainment and live and silent auctions of 150 varied items. Big Brothers/Big Sisters Ottawa is sponsoring The Big Art Event at the Ottawa Congress Centre. The event will include a dinner and an auction. Tickets are $90. For more information call 613-247-4776.

Homes for the Holidays, the fourth annual fundraising event for The Hospice at May Court, will take place over three days. The event features a tour of eight venues, including four homes, decorated by for the holidays by local florists and designers.
