Ottawa Centre MP Paul Dewar proposed a private member’s bill to improve the labeling of bottled water late last month. In a press release Dewar argued that the labels should be more informative about the chemical content of the bottle.
“Strong labeling regulations will give Canadians a clear idea of what’s really in the bottle.”
Dewar wants labels to show the water's source, added ingredients, date of packaging and expiration, the manufacturer’s toll-free number, a warning about the possibility of chemical leaching and instructions to refrigerate after opening.
The Bill C-514 awaits second reading in the Commons.
