Thursday was a day of protest in Ottawa. Thousands marched through the downtown streets protesting Canada's abortion laws, while dozens gathered to denounce what they say is Israel's mistreatment of Palestinians.
The 11th annual National March for Life to the Human Rights Monument on Elgin St. and Parliament Hill caused traffic snarls downtown. Meanwhile, a group of Jews, Palestinians, and other residents assembled outside Lansdowne Park to draw attention to "the ongoing dispossession and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians." The protest, by a group called Not in Our Name, coincided with the 60th anniversary of the founding of Israel. Other protests also included a pro-choice rally and a demonstration against Ontario's aboriginal policies.
