Spa owner ‘missing in action’ again

For the second time, the owner of the Asia Spas massage parlours was a no-show at the Ottawa licensing committee hearing.

Yu Hua Li, a licensed Body Rub Parlour Operator, was expected before the Ottawa licensing committee on Jan. 19 in response to concerns of several Criminal Code charges.

When she didn’t show, the committee unanimously adjourned the appearance to the next meeting, on Feb. 6.  However, the licensee was not present this morning when her matter was called forward.

Li has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for the alleged offence of “keeping a common bawdy- house” at the licensed premises of 386 Bank St. and 176 Gloucester St. In accordance with the Licensing By-law 2002-189, the Chief License Inspector considers the continuation of the license may be adverse to the public interest.

Li is expected to lose her business licenses, as she has been charged with seven offences related to keeping a common bawdy-house, living off the profits of prostitution and breaching a previous recognisance.
