Former Ottawa 67’s captain Logan Couture has scored his first NHL goal.
But his effort wasn’t enough to propel Couture’s new team, the San Jose Sharks, to victory over the Detroit Red Wings, losing 2-1 in a shootout Thursday night and ending the Sharks’ winning streak at six games.
When speaking to reporters after the game, Couture had trouble remembering the entire goal.
“I was shooting far side and I’m not even sure where it went in,” he said to San Jose Mercury News. “As soon as I saw the red light on . . . I couldn’t describe the feeling.”
Couture’s first goal came in his sixth NHL game after being called up to San Jose from their farm team, the Worcester Sharks in the American Hockey League, where he has already recorded 10 points in seven games.
Couture now has two points in the NHL, having earned an assist this past weekend against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Prior to joining the NHL this year as a rookie, Couture starred for the 67’s throughout his major junior career in the past four seasons and captained the team during the 2008-09 season.
