Speed skater Kristina Groves has become the most successful Olympian from Ottawa with four medals over two winter games.
Groves won her fourth Olympic medal last night with a second place finish in the ladies’ 1,500- metres speed skating race with a finish time of one minute, 57:14 seconds.
It was her 11th race in an Olympic career started at the 2002 Salt Lake City games. Groves also earned a bronze medal at the ladies’ 3,000 metres race last week and two silver medals at the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games, making her the first Canadian athlete to win two medals at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Groves is set to race in the upcoming 5,000 metres race on Wednesday and the ladies’ team pursuit events on Friday and Saturday.
