Cst.Khoa Hoang took over as the manager of the Somerset Community Police Centre on May 17, replacing Nathan Hoedeman who ran the centre for the last four years.
Hoang, a Vietnamese immigrant who grew up in a small apartment on Bank and Nepean streets, was handpicked by Hoedeman to carry on his tradition of community involvement and crime prevention work.
Before beginning his career in policing, Hoang worked with at-risk youth for four years and says that it is had an impact on the way approaches community policing.
“I have a passion to give back to this community, a passion that was nurtured by families who gave so much to me during my early years,” said Hoang.
Hoang said he hopes that residents will drop in and discuss any community safety concerns they might have.
Hoedeman will be leaving the police force after 15 years of service and take a position with Ottawa Community Housing as its community safety manager.
