The city’s community and protective services committee unanimously Thursday approved granting the Beaver Barracks project on Metcalfe and Catherine Streets $531,678.
The Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corp., a non-profit housing organization, requested the funds to help cover the costs of a provincially mandated re-design of the site after construction had already begun last year which cost $735,000.
Initially, only supposed to include 160 units, the Beaver Barracks project will now be the site of 248 affordable urban housing units.
The city has committed more than $10 million to the $43 million project, which is the largest affordable housing complex built in Ottawa’s recent history.
