Ottawa-Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi was reassigned Thursday from the Ministry of Revenue to his new position as parliamentary assistant to the minister of education.
He will be working under Minister Leona Dombrosky to implement full-day learning, increase graduation rates and improve test scores as part of the McGuinty Government’s Open Ontario Plan.
“I’m honoured to have been chosen for this role. Education is an issue that is close to my heart, and extremely important to my community. I look forward to working with Minister Dombrowsky on the implementation of full day learning,” Naqvi said in a press release.
Premier Dalton McGuinty said after announcing the appointment that Naqvi in his new role will help his government meet their education objectives.
A first-generation Canadian, Naqvi’s family arrived in Canada in 1988 after the Pakistani government imprisoned his father for leading a pro-democracy march.
