Charges upgraded against man in Albert Street crash

Charges were upgraded Tuesday against an Ottawa man involved in an Albert Street collision, following the death of a second crash victim Monday morning.

Police have upgraded charges against Simon Banke, 20, to two counts each of criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death, according to an Ottawa Citizen report.

Ottawa Police have declined to confirm the report, saying any upgraded charges will be presented at Banke's bail hearing on Friday.

Banke was originally charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and bodily harm, criminal negligence causing death and bodily harm, stunt racing, and driving with a blood-alcohol content level greater than zero, which is illegal for anyone under 22.

Sherryanne Regnier, a 35-year-old mother of three, died from her injuries following the crash early Monday morning, according to a police news release.

Regnier and her husband, Leo Paul Regnier, were standing at a bus stop at Albert Street just west of Bank Street, Thursday evening, when a car struck them.

Leo Paul Regnier, 36, died at the scene of the accident.
