A man charged in connection to a fatal Albert Street collision on Sept. 16 will need to wait to find out if he will be granted bail.
Charges were upgraded against Simon Banke, 20, of Ottawa during a court hearing Friday. He now faces two counts each of criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, in addition to charges for stunt racing and having a blood-alcohol level above zero, which is illegal for drivers under the age of 22.
A married couple died from injuries they sustained in the crash. A car struck them as they waited at a temporary bus stop at the corner of Bank and Albert streets.
Leo Paul Regnier, 36, died at the scene of the crash. His wife, Sherryanne Regnier, 35, succumbed to her injuries in hospital, four days after the accident.
The court will announce its decision whether or not to grant bail on Thursday, Sept. 30.
The bail proceedings cannot be disclosed due to a publication ban.
