Clive Doucet has a village-inspired vision to make Ottawa streets look like the renewed Preston Street, beginning with Carling Avenue, according to an article in the Ottawa Citizen.
Doucet said he would like to recreate streets throughout the city, using Preston Street as a model. This would include wider sidewalks and “lighting that doesn’t look as though it belongs on a highway,” the article stated.
He revealed his hopes for Ottawa at a meeting with the Citizen editorial board Friday, saying he wants to create a sustainable city as mayor.
In the article, Doucet said he wanted to make Carling Avenue the “Preston Street of the whole west end of the city.”
The article said Doucet’s vision was inspired by the city he knew in the 1950s, growing up around Hintonburg.
According to the article, Doucet said, if elected, he would use his position to persuade his fellow councillors and locals to embrace his dream of a renewed Ottawa.
