Somerset has low advanced poll turnout

Somerset Ward had the second lowest total voter turnout in the first round of advanced polls, according to the Ottawa elections office.

Only 365 people from Somerset voted on Oct. 2, which is less two per cent of Somerset’s 23,137 registered voters. Rideau-Rockcliffe Ward had the highest total, with 1,766 people. River Ward had the lowest, with 344.

According to the city elections office, approximately eight per cent of registered Somerset voters participated in first round of advanced polls in 2006. A little more than two per cent made it out to the second.

Somerset’s 50 per cent voter turnout in 2006 tied with Cumberland for fifth lowest standing out of all wards. Stittsville-Kanata West saw the highest turnout with 64 per cent.

The next round of advanced poll is Thursday. Voters go to polls officially for the final time Oct. 25.
